Our Dog History:
Dave and Joyce Kinghorn, Chatham Golden Retrievers, purchased their first Golden in February, 1974. Max (CH High Hopes Maxwell CD TD) was a wonderful introduction to a new love and a new way of life. Within two years, they acquired Gatsby who went on to become CH Great Gatsby of Gold-Rush CD TD WCX. In 1989 Dave and Joyce leased a Gatsby daughter, Gatsby’s Ellie Mae CD (pointed). They bred her and produced a CH TD JH WC Show Dog Hall of Fame Dog. A few years later, they leased her again and produced CH Chatham’s Little Ann. Annie is the foundation of every current Chatham and Chatham co-owned dog or bitch.
Joyce has volunteered in two primary areas. First, she has chaired independent specialty shows, a Central Regional Specialty show, and two GRCA National Specialties. Secondly, Joyce enjoyed serving six years on the GRCA Board of Directors as a director from the Central Region, First Vice President, and as President of GRCA. In 1999, Joyce was awarded Lifetime Membership in GRCA.
A member of KCGRC for 27 years, Dave served 8 years as President of that local club. In 1991 he was treasurer of the GRCA National; in 2006 he served as Grounds Chair for the GRCA National. In 2005 Dave was elected to serve as President of the Golden Retriever Foundation, a post he enjoys immensely.
Both Joyce and Dave have enjoyed many Sweepstakes assignments in years past. Joyce has judged in New York, Texas, California. She did the Eastern Regional Sweeps in Florida and recently judged Sweeps at the 2007 National Specialty in Snohomish, WA. Dave has judged Sweeps in New Mexico, along with the Western Regional Sweepstakes in Colorado and the Central Regional Sweeps in Norman, OK.
Dave and Joyce live with and love two very special - to them! - Golden Retrievers. All other dogs sired by their dogs and/or bred by and shown by them are co-owned with fine friends, most of whom live in the Midwest.
